Rep. Beth Bernstein

State Representative, South Carolina House of Representatives

Beth Bernstein represents House District 78 (Columbia) in the South Carolina House of Representatives, where she has served since 2012. She is the only Jewish member of the South Carolina General Assembly and sponsored the legislation adopting the IHRA definition of antisemitism, which was enacted into law in 2024.
 
Beth serves on the House Judiciary Committee, where she chairs the Family and Probate Laws Subcommittee, and she is Secretary of the House Ethics Committee. She is a past Chairwoman of the General Assembly Women’s Caucus and previously chaired the Joint Citizens and Legislative Committee on Children.
 
A practicing attorney for more than thirty years, Beth is a partner at Bernstein & Bernstein, LLC, the Columbia firm she joined with her brother and her late father after graduating from the University of South Carolina School of Law. She is a 2019 fellow of the Aspen Institute’s Rodel Fellowships in Public Leadership.
