Rabbi David Ingber has spent two decades asking what it means to be a progressive Jew who takes both tradition and Israel seriously and building a community around that answer.

As the founding rabbi of Romemu—the largest Jewish Renewal synagogue in the United States—and the Rabbi / Senior Director of Jewish Life and the Bronfman Center at 92NY, he holds together what others keep apart: rigorous traditional learning and mystical practice, prophetic universalism and unapologetic Zionism, ancient wisdom and honest engagement with contemporary life.

Raised Modern Orthodox in New York, Rabbi Ingber studied at Ramaz, Yeshiva University, Yeshiva Chaim Berlin, and Yeshivat Chovevei Torah before receiving private ordination from Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, founder of the Jewish Renewal movement. He also founded Romemu Yeshiva, the first fully egalitarian yeshiva dedicated to mystical and meditative Jewish learning. His teaching draws on the Ba’al Shem Tov, the Ishbitzer Rebbe, Rav Kook, and Carl Jung—and the conviction that Jewish civilization has something irreplaceable to say to this moment.

Named by Newsweek as one of America’s 50 most influential rabbis and by The Forward as one of the 50 most notable Jews in America, he served for a decade  on the faculty of the Wexner Heritage Program and the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America.  Romemu now serves over 1,000 member households across Manhattan and Brooklyn, with a growing global membership.

Rabbi Ingber lives in Manhattan with his wife Ariel and their three children.
