Dr. Buffie Longmire-Avital
Professor of Psychology and Director, Black Lumen Project
Dr. Longmire-Avital is a diversity, inclusion, and racial equity (D.I.R.E ©) scholar-educator and the first Black faculty member promoted to the rank of professor in the College of Arts & Sciences at Elon University, and the inaugural director of the Black Lumen Project. Her research focuses on how systemic injustices contribute to health inequities. In 2022 she was named a Race, Religion, and American Judaism Fellow with the Center for Jewish Ethics and National Endowments for the Humanities. This funded work explored the conversations Jewish parents have with their children about race and racism in society and within the Jewish community.
