MK Simcha D. Rothman (Religious Zionism), Chair of Constitution, Law and Justice Committee


He is former member of the Judges Selection Committee.


Before he was elected to the Knesset, Rothman was the founder and legal adviser of The Movement for Governability and Democracy (Meshilut), a leading voice in the fight against judicial activism and for the proper separation of powers in Israel.


He researched the complex relations between appointed and elected officials and represented Meshilut in appeals filed before the Israeli Supreme Court and in various Knesset committees.


Rothman's book, "Supreme Rulers, How Israel Became a Legalocracy" (2019) became a bestseller and made the Israeli public aware of the problems with judicial activism.


Rothman earned his L.L.M. in Public Law in the joint program between Northwestern University and Tel Aviv University. He earned his L.L.B. from Bar Ilan University, studied in Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh, and served as a chaplain in the Combat Engineering Corps of the Israel Defense Forces.
